  • Food is history. Food is culture. Food is communities. And for us, food is also storytelling.

Recipes from the (R)Evolution is a collection of food recipes, performance exercises, and other invitations all designed to explore and experiment on how to gather people in a world amidst pandemic and a nation in social transformation.

During the COVID-19 pandemic’s shutdown, we wanted to rethink how we, as artists, could respond; how we can further our explorations of food as medicine, cooking as a form of catharsis, and how, through the act of creating meals and other social and cultural offerings, we can celebrate our cultures and find avenues to redefine ideas of community participation.

After reading about the history and resurgence of community cookbooks during the pandemic, Radical Evolution cofounder Meropi Peponides was inspired to reimagine the concept to make it align with our creative processes and ethics.

From breathing exercises to craft projects, the contributors to this cookbook share their daily practices and simple pleasures. Of course, a few iconic generational recipes are also thrown in - a must for any cookbook to be worthwhile!

Combining our love of food, language, and gathering our community through this project has been such a joy. Our brilliant collaborative team on this project is helmed by Tyler Thomas and Denise Shu Mei, the creative editor and visual architect of the book that you will soon hold in your hands.

The book is now available to purchase in hard copy, with worldwide shipping available. Click here to order.
